Link Cloaking Tool
Shorten Long URL's and/or Hide Your Affiliate Links

TinyURL is one neat little tool. Whether you want to shorten a long URL to make it easier to insert on your web page or in an email, for example ... or you want to "cloak" an affiliate link to hide the exact address from your visitors, this will do the trick. Simple, fast and never expires. I think it's great.

Here's a real example. This is the original Mapquest URL for my search for the "Grand 'ol Opry" in Nashville, Tennessee:

    http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?formtype=address&country
    =US&popflag= 0&latitude=&longitude=&name=&phone=&level=
    &addtohistory=&cat=Grand+ol+Opry&address=&city=nashville&state=
    TN&zipcode=

Using the TinyURL tool, the terribly long Mapquest URL became http://tinyurl.com/yxqkps  Try this and click on it ... the link redirects you automatically to the Mapquest page.

Stop Word List
Words to Help With Keyword Utilization

There are times when you have a long keyword phrase that is tricky to incorporate into your content because it comes across very clumsy sounding as far as readability is concerned. This situation is compounded by the fact that your phrase must be used throughout your copy in order to "please" the search engine spiders. So ... what do you do?

In these instances, the use of "stop words" comes to the rescue. The spiders don't pay attention to them and completely ignore them, so you can safely use a stop word (or two) to break up a keyword phrase. In this way, you just might find it a bit easier to work it into your web page's content without the keyword phrase sticking out like a sore thumb to your reader.

Here's a very simplified example. Let's say the keyword phrase you're using is "web content editing". Now, think about it. How many times can you keep saying "web content editing" without it becoming terribly obvious that's your keyword phrase?

This sentence makes good use of a stop word:

I will admit it's not always easy coming up with smooth flowing web content. Sometimes editing must be done three or more times to really polish the article.

OK, this is not an award winning sentence I will admit. However it does give you a good example how you can "disguise", if we can call it that, the repetitious use of that 3-word phrase. The spiders don't care that a stop word is in the middle, so you'll get SEO "credit" for utilizing the keyword, and your reader won't have to read those same three words all in a row one more time.

Here is a free stop word list I encourage you to download. Please note it is in PDF format.  Click here for: Stop Word List
